Jessica Layton
Bio
Jessica Layton is currently a network news anchor at NBC and MSNBC where she fills in regularly on NBC’s Early Today and on MSNBC programming and handles breaking news at all hours for MSNBC. Jessica has more than 20 years of experience in local and network news as a tv reporter and anchor with a passion for writing, story-telling and connecting with people she interviews. As a reporter in Watertown, NY right out of Syracuse University, she frequently covered stories at Fort Drum while the 10th Mountain Division was deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Albany, NY she anchored the market’s #1 late newscast while also covering politics at the NYS Capitol.
With a particular love for breaking news and weather-related stories, Jessica was among the first on the scene of every major story in New York City from 2016 – 2021 the Chelsea bombing, the West Side Bike Path truck attack, the mass shooting in Jersey City, multiple storms including Hurricane Irma in Florida and the high-rise building collapse in Miami. She was also the station’s lead COVID-19 correspondent, covering every angle of the pandemic while turning important enterprise stories regarding vaccine availability and investigative pieces on the delays in unemployment money. Jessica hits the ground running in every story and aims to connect on a personal level with everyone she speaks with for a story.
Jessica is a graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University and was a member of the Women’s Soccer Team. She lives in New Jersey with her husband and their son.
